Plan Your First Trip
Whether you're planning a weekend city break or a two-week multi-country adventure, every trip in Smooth Traveling follows the same simple structure: a trip card holds the big picture, and individual itinerary days hold the details. Here's how to get from a blank screen to a complete, personalised plan.
- 1
Check your free trip allowance
Click the + New Trip button in the top navigation. A dialog will appear asking for the essentials: trip title, destination, travel dates, number of travellers, and your total budget. You'll also choose a trip mode — 'Flight-based' for holidays where you fly between cities, or 'Road trip' for overland journeys. Don't worry about getting every detail right immediately; you can edit everything later from the Overview tab.
Tip: Pick a status of 'Planning' when you're still researching — it keeps those trips grouped separately from confirmed bookings. - 2
Create a new trip
In the Overview tab, scroll down to Travel style and interests. Choose your preferred pace — Relaxed, Balanced, or Packed — select interest tags like Food & drink, Culture, or Adventure, and set your transport preferences. The AI uses these signals to tailor every suggestion and generated itinerary to how you actually travel.
Tip: You can update style and interests at any time. Changes take effect on your next AI suggestion or itinerary generation. - 3
Set your travel style and interests
In the Overview tab, scroll down to Travel style and interests. Choose your preferred pace (relaxed, balanced, or packed), select interest tags like Food & drink, Culture, or Adventure, and pick your transport preferences. The AI uses these signals to tailor every suggestion and generated itinerary to how you actually travel.
- 4
Open the Itinerary tab
Click Add item at the bottom of any day. Choose the item type, give it a title and a time slot, then save. Start with the anchors — your hotel check-in, the main activity, dinner — then fill in the gaps. You don't need every hour planned from day one.
Tip: Rough out all days first with just the headline items, then come back to add costs and booking details as you confirm reservations. - 5
Add your first items
Switch to the AI Suggestions tab and search your destination. The app will return curated places, restaurants, and activities with photos. Click + Add on anything that looks good — it drops straight into your chosen day with a photo and estimated cost already attached.
- 6
Use AI suggestions to fill the gaps
Switch to the AI Suggestions tab and search your destination. Browse curated places, restaurants, and activities, then click + Add on anything you like to drop it into your chosen day.
- 7
Review and update the trip status
Once you're happy with the plan, go to the Overview tab and update the status to Booked. After you return, set it to Visited to move the trip into your archive.
